Make your Garage Safe for Whole Family
We know that safety is incredibly important to you and your family members. A garage door is the largest and heaviest moving part of the home, so it’s important to understand how to properly operate and maintain your garage door. Like any other mechanical part, there is potential to have a dangerous situation occur under certain circumstances. Allow us to help you avoid that.
If you have children in your home, be sure to conduct garage safety tests on a regular basis. It is important to make sure that your garage is functioning properly at all times to help avoid injury.
Help keep your family safe and informed with these 10 helpful tips:
- Make sure the garage door opener control is out of reach of children, at least five feet off the ground.
- Visually inspect the garage door for possible wear and tear regularly. Pay close attention to springs, cables, rollers, and pulleys. Do not work to remove, adjust, or repair these parts or anything attached to them. These parts are under high tension and should be examined by trained garage door professionals.
- Never place fingers between door sections. Consider pinch-resistant door panels to help prevent accidents.
- Check glass on the garage door regularly for cracks that may have formed.
- Educate your children on the possible dangers of garage doors and do not let them play with the garage door.
- Unplug the garage door unit or use the lock security switch on the wall console when you are out of town.
- Avoid leaving the garage door slightly open at the bottom for long periods of time.
- Keep fingers, hands, and arms away from tracks, springs, rollers, etc.
- Regularly check all moving parts to make sure they are operating properly.
- Check anything inside of the garage for possibilities of danger.
