Will you be celebrating Veteran’s Day this year? There are many ways to celebrate and offer your support to veterans. Whether it’s a kind thank you or a dinner out, take the time to honor those that have honored our country.

From all of us at Overhead Door of Garden City, thank you for all that you do!

Here are a few ways to help show your appreciation on Veteran’s Day this Wednesday:

• Attend a Veteran’s Day event.
• Take a vet out for dinner! Don’t forget to see what restaurants are offering discounts for veterans.
• Buy a cup of coffee for a veteran.
• Have a potluck at work. Don’t require veterans to bring in a dish.
• Have everyone at work sign a thank you card for each veteran co-worker.
• Ask a vet their military history. How did they get involved? What’s their fondest memory?
• Visit the local VFW and make a small donation.
• Make a home cooked meal for a veteran at your church or in your neighborhood.
• Fly an American flag outside of your home.
• Wear a red poppy or yellow ribbon to show that you support active duty military members.
• Put together a care package for a veteran you know. If you do not know a veteran, call the local VFW for suggestions.
• Have your children make a ‘thank you for your service’ card or two. Bring the cards or mail them to hospital close by. Ask them to offer it to an attending veteran.
• Take a moment away from your day and simply think about our country and those that fight for our freedom.
• Remember to call the vets in your life and thank them for their service.
• Invite a veteran over for dinner. Ask him or her their story and share it with your children.

The best think you can do is express thanks. You don’t have to do this only one day of the year, feel free to do it any time you see someone in uniform! Offer your thanks as often as you can. To all of our service members out there: Thank you for serving our country. We appreciate you and all that you do!
